Belgium: Intelligence failures
As Belgium security forces today launch anti-terror raids near Brussels, the country’s intelligence community as a whole is coming in for some severe criticism. Reality Check speaks to Ryan Heath, senior EU correspondent at the news website Politico and discovers some worrying facts.

World Economic Forum: Gender equality
That women earn on average much less than men is nothing new. That it will take around 118 years at current rates for them to catch up is, however, rather startling. This though is the main thrust of a report just published by the World Economic Form. Dr. Louise Livesey, Professor of Feminist Studies at Westminster University, puts the report in perspective.

Games: Fallout 4
Seit 1997 hat die Computerspielreihe "Fallout" das Rollenspiel-Genre und das Sujet der nuklearen Postapokalypse nachhaltig geprägt. Mit "Fallout 4" ist nun der lang erwartete fünfte Titel der Serie erschienen, der sich bereits in der ersten Woche über 12 Millionen mal verkauft hat. Das Spiel ist so erfolgreich, dass sogar Zugriffe auf diverse Pornoportale merkbar zurückgegangen sein sollen. Daniel Grabner kennt die "Fallout"-Serie von Anfang an und sieht sich für FM4 den aktuellen Teil ausführlich an.

Buch: "Cold Spring Harbor" von Richard Yates
Mit "Cold Spring Harbor" ist der letzte, vollendete Roman von Richard Yates ins Deutsche übersetzt worden. Lediglich ein Erzählband - "Eine letzte Liebschaft" (sic!) - wird im November nächsten Jahres noch bei der DVA erscheinen. Bleibt zu hoffen, dass das Wiederaufleben und -entdecken von Yates durch das herannahende Ende der deutschen Neuerscheinungen nicht beschnitten wird. Denn "Cold Spring Harbor" wirft erneut die Frage auf, warum diesem Autor zu Lebzeiten kein Ruhm beschieden war. Martina Bauer zieht zum wiederholten Mal den Hut vor Richard Yates - bzw. wäre ein erhobenes Glas wahrscheinlich passender.

Film: Interview mit Abel Ferrara ("Pasolini")
Lange Zeit galt er als Amerikas kompromisslosester Regie-Rebell: In Filmen wie "Bad Lieutnant", "The Funeral" oder "King Of New York" thematisierte Abel Ferrara Themen von biblischer Schwere auf grelle, stilisierte, aber immer intensive Weise. Den 1951 geborenen Italoamerikaner verfolgt dabei der Ruf des unnahbaren Exzentrikers, inklusive höchst ungesundem Lebenswandel. Mit seinem aktuellen Filmen rückte Ferrara aber wieder auf konzentriert künstlerische Weise in den Blickpunkt der Kritik. In "Pasolini" zeigt er nun mit Willem Dafoe in der Titelrolle die letzten Tage des ermordeten italienischen Regie-Rebellen. Christian Fuchs wagte sich aus diesem Anlass zum Interview mit der Indiefilm-Ikone Abel Ferrara.

Musik: Kate Boy
Die schwedische Electropop-Band Kate Boy veröffentlichte kürzlich ihr erstes komplettes Album - "One" mit Titeln wie "Midnight Sun" oder "Higher". Die Band rund um die gebürtige Australierin Kate Akhurst und Markus Dextegen spielt seit vier Jahren zusammen und ist international gefragt. Eva Umbauer stellt Kate Boy und ihr Album "One" vor.
