Close Up: No Turning Back – Locke
Der britische Autor und Regisseur Steven Knight hat nicht nur die „Millionenshow“ miterfunden. Er lieferte auch Drehbücher für ambitionierte Kinothriller wie „Eastern Promises“ von David Cronenberg oder schuf mit der Gangsterserie „Peaky Blinders“ das britische Pendant zu „Boardwalk Empire“. Mit seiner Regiearbeit „Locke“, letztes Jahr Abschlussfilm der Viennale, ist Steven Knight ein besonders ungewöhnliches Werk gelungen. Knappe 90 Minuten sehen wir Tom Hardy zu, wie er bei einer nächtlichen Autofahrt mit seinen Dämonen kämpft. Christian Fuchs berichtet über „Locke“, der bei uns in „No Turning back“ umgetitel wurde.

Iraq
Nearly 300 US forces are being sent back into Iraq to protect US assets in Baghdad. Meanwhile it’s unclear just how much cooperation there can be between Iran and the United States in helping the Iraqi government fight the insurgents of the militant Islamic group ISIS. Tony Cheng is our correspondent who’s just arrived in Erbil (Arbil), capital of the autonomous Kurdish region of Iraq. This part of the country has been relatively stable but it’s not clear how long it will remain so.

Italy & refugess
Italy is warning that a naval operation to rescue migrants in the Mediterranean may have to be stopped unless the Italy gets more support from the EU. After several tragedies in which hundreds of migrants lost their lives, Italy introduced the Mare Nostrum project but now says it can no longer continue the patrols of the Libyan coast.

Egypt: Al Jazeera journalists
An Egyptian court has said that it will deliver its judgement on June 23 in the case of three Al Jazeera journalists on trial for terrorist activities. The arrest of the journalists some five months ago caused a major outcry with human rights groups saying the case showed that the Egyptian authorities were trampling on freedom of expression.

The discussion over who will be the president of the European Commission is still going on and still continues to anger many voters who feel they’ve been cheated. The old establish parties have lost credibility with the European public. But did you know that 91 MEPs under the age of 40 were elected to the European Parliament last month? Some of those have come together to form a group within the parliament – but will they really do things differently.

Gegen-Gegendemo bei der Regenbogenparade
Heute viel diskutiert in allen Sozialen Medien: Grünen-Nationalratsabgeordnete Sigrid Maurer schreibt auf ihrem Blog über ihre Beobachtungen rund um den Marsch der Familie, der eine Gegenveranstaltung zu Regenbogenparade vergangenen Samstag war. Sie beschreibt unter anderem, dass sie mitbekommen hat, wie Queer-Aktivistinnen, die gegen die radikalen Christ_innen demonstriert haben, verhaftet wurden. Als sie wissen wollte, warum und was mit ihnen passiere, habe ein Polizist ihr die Hand auf den Rücken gedreht und auch sie mitgenommen, sagt Maurer in ihrer Beschreibung der Ereignisse. Die Polizei wiederum sagt, sie hat an Störungsaktionen teilgenommen.
Ähnlich wie Maurer haben sich auch andere über eigenwilliges Verhalten der Polizei bei dieser Gegen-Gegendemo beschwert. Wir haben mit drei Menschen gesprochen haben, die dort waren.

FM4 Artist Of The Week: Klaxons
"Mit ihrem Debütalbum "Myths of the near future" wurden die drei Mitglieder der Band Klaxons 2007 schnell zu den Posterboys des New Rave. Dieser Tage melden sie sich mit Album Nummer Drei, "Love Frequency", zurück und sind nicht deshalb, sondern trotzdem unsere Artists of the week."

Film: Houchang Allahyari
Sein Film "Der letzte Tanz" über die tabuisierte Beziehungen zwischen einem Zivildiener und einer Patientin der Geriatrie hat Regisseur Houchang Allahyari bei der Diagonale den Preis für den den besten österreichisch Spielfilm eingebracht. Institutions- und Gesellschaftskritik zieht sich durch die Kinoarbeit des persischen Psychiaters. Seit den 70er Jahren lebt er in Wien. In den 90er Jahren sind seine Produktionen über Migration "I love Vienna" oder "Geboren in Absurdistan" entstanden. Seine engagierte Dokumentation "Bock for President" wurde mehrfach ausgezeichnet. FM4 Filmkritikerin Petra Erdmann spricht mit Houchang Allahyari anlässlich des Filmstarts von "Der Letzte Tanz".

Alexis Taylor
Das neue Solo-Album des Hot-Chip-Frontmanns erscheint vielleicht wie eine Überraschung: Hier gibt's keinen hypereklektizistischen Dance-Pop zu hören, keine funky Beats und keine Sensibel-Disco für Anspruchsvolle wie sonst meist bei der Hauptband. Mit "Await Barbarians" hat Alexis Taylor ein spartanisch instrumentiertes und intimes Singer/Songwriter-Album aufgenommen. Im Zentrum steht seine unverkennbare Stimme. Ein leiser Triumph des Minimalismus. Philipp L'heritier hat die Platte gehört und mit Alexis Taylor telefoniert.

Taylor McFerrin
Ein berühmter Vater (Bobby, der von „Don’t Worry, Be Happy“) und ein noch berühmterer Taufpate (Prince Rogers Nelson) sind schon mal ein guter Start ins Musiker-Dasein, der Beatboxer, Multiinstrumentalist und Produzent Taylor McFerrin muss sich aber nicht darauf ausruhen, denn sein bei Flying Lotus‘ Brainfeeder Records erschienenes Debüt-Album „Early Riser“ begeistert nämlich auch für sich!
