A draft agreement has been reached laying out the terms under which American troops may stay in Afghanistan beyond 2014. Some 2,000 Afghan elders are due to discuss the text of the agreement at the Council of Elders known as the Loya Jirga later today. What will this mean for the future of the US-Afghan relationship and for stability for the country?

Arctic 30
A court in Russia has freed on bail some of the Greenpeace activists who were arrested recently for protesting against oil drilling in the Arctic. What more are we hearing? We'll get reaction from our Moscow correspondent Charles Maynes.

French police have arrested a man in connection with two shootings and a car jacking in Paris on Monday. He was arrested in a car in an underground car park following a tip-off from a member of the public. Is there an anarchist connection. We speak with Hugh Schofield in Paris.

Fracking in Botswana
Fracking, extracting gas stored between the earth`s rocks, has been rejected by Austria but has become a boom industry in America. With very little public fanfare, the southern African country of Botswana is using science developed in the USA to drill for gas in its deserts. Jeff Barbee has made a documentary about the efforts The High Cost of Cheap Gas and he tells us about the project.

Hoch im Kino-Kurs: Cormac McCarthy und seine Roman-Verfilmungen
Der 1933 geborene Cormac McCarthy gehört zu den eindringlichsten Schriftstellern der Gegenwart. In seinen Büchern untersucht der US-Autor die menschliche Befindlichkeit. Und stößt dabei auf hochgradig verstörende Abgründe. Trotz der Kompromisslosigkeit seiner Werke interessiert sich Hollywood für den mehrfach ausgezeichneten McCarthy. Billy Bob Thorntons Kinoversion „All The Pretty Horses“ floppte anno 2000 noch, die Coen-Brüder wurden 2007 für „No Country For Old Men“ mit dem Oscar ausgezeichnet. Nach der Verfilmung seines Weltuntergangsdramas „The Road“ hat Cormac McCarthy nun für „The Counselor“ sein erstes Originaldrehbuch geschrieben. Aus Anlass des Ridley-Scott-Thrillers, der nächste Woche anläuft, taucht Christian Fuchs in die düstere Welt der McCarthy-Adaptionen ein.

Das Projekt Head Top Miners kombiniert die dubbig und elektronisch angereicherten Beats von Twang (Ex-Rückgrat/Markante Handlungen) mit den englischsprachigen Reimen von MC Kinetical. Ihre Debüt-LP „Phalea“ klingt deshalb eher nach Brixton als nach Linz – im Interview erzählen uns die beiden, wie es dazu kam.
