Interview: Flare Acoustic Arts League
Der New Yorker Musiker LD Beghtol war auf dem 1999er Album der Magnetic Fields Gastsänger, wo er einige der schönsten Stücke sang. Seine eigene Band nennt er Flare Acoustic Arts League, und "Big Top/Encore EP" ist seine vierte Albumveröffentlichung unter dem Namen. Die Musik ist großes Drama mit viel Popappeal samt Toy-Pianos und Mariachibläsern. Flare Acoustic Arts League spielen heute im Wiener B72 - zusammen mit Maria Taylor und Unbunny - und nehmen vorher noch eine FM4-Akustiksession auf. Film: The Descendants
Gleich zwei Golden Globes hat "The Descendants" von Alexander Payne ("About Schmidt", "Sideways") verliehen bekommen: einen für das beste Drama und den anderen für den besten Schauspieler, in diesem Fall George Clooney. Unprätentiös und sensibel spielt er Matt King - Verwalter und Mitbesitzer eines riesigen Grundstücks auf Hawaii sowie Vater zweier Töchter. Als er gerade im Begriff ist, den Verkauf des Grundbesitzes für seine gesamte Familie zu organisieren, hat seine Frau einen Speedboatunfall und fällt ins Koma. Ein Schicksalsschlag, der ihn dazu bringt, seine Lebenssituation neu zu bewerten. (Erika Koriska)

Film: The Artist
Vom Film, den niemand produzieren wollte zum dreifachen "Golden Globe"-Gewinner und Oscar-Anwärter. Michel Hazanavicius‘ "The Artist" entwickelt sich seit der Auszeichnung beim Filmfestival in Cannes zum Filmwunder, dem niemand widerstehen kann - außer Kim Novak. Die fand die Verwendung des Soundtracks von "Vertigo" in "The Artist" käme einer Vergewaltigung gleich. Ein Mini-Skandal hat aber einem Oscar-Anwärter ja auch noch nie geschadet.
