Today's Webtip: The Story of Feminist Punk

Playlists, background and a little bit of history.

Pitchfork recently posted an article that is a pretty good argument for things like music journalism and specialist radio shows. It's been a few years since my hardcore music geek phase, but articles like this one still manage to speak to me. And sometimes they serve up a surprise to two.

In this article,Vivienne Goldman takes us on a tour of feminist punk from 1975 to 2015. It's not a totally comprehensive list, and only features 33 songs, but there were a few of the ones you might expect and a few that were brand new for me. And that is pretty much just what I want from an article like this. Some new background information on the bands I know and love and a chance to find new ones.

Once you are done with the article, it might pay off to head off to Metafilter (where I found the link) to get an alternative playlist that includes links to videos and alternative versions of some of the songs.
