Today's Webtip: Getting Better All the Time?
Ray Kurzweil got some attention last week after giving a presentation in which he said the world isn't actually getting worse - our information is just getting better.
For many of you that might be a bit of a "no shit, Sherlock" statement, and for many others it might seem very hard to believe considering the headlines of this year. And that is sort of the point.
One thing that a lot of hate-postings, trolls, sjw's, Wutbürger, and Trump supporters have in common is the firm belief that nothing is as good as it used to be. The world is more dangerous, more threatening, more pathetic, the kids are lazier, people more ignorant...
The list could go on forever.
Although there are still many things that need to be improved and individual situations can be much, much worse, from a global historical perspective, things are getting pretty good. Now, I'm not well-known for being an eternal optimist. Grumpy old man is probably the most frequent way people, who know me, actually describe me. But I do know that being mindful of your actual situation can be an important part of improving it.
Something that can be difficult. Why is it so difficult?
