Today's Webtip: Ghost Rider

A remastered video of Alan Vega's classic track.

Alan Vega was one of those Musicians that just got out there and did it. I can't presume that he was interested in any kind of commercial success, in fact, it seems like he was a bit disappointed to find out that people might have been "entertained" by his performances.

He was also one of those musicians that influenced quite a few others, and was considerably ahead of his time.

I didn't discover him until the 80's and even then I didn't know it was him, and spent a few years trying to figure out what that track was that I heard somewhere that stuck in my head. It turns out it was one called "Ghost Rider", from Suicide. Since Vega and Martin Rev took a pretty freeform approach to their songs, the version I recently found isn't exactly like the one I had stuck in my head way back then, but it's still recognisable and just as haunting.

And to top if tall off, it has been remastered and fixed up from ancient footage in a way that is just astounding. This isn't the way I remember underground DIY footage from the early 80's looking. But that is because of some help from one of the worlds first VJ's. You can read about the clip on dangerousminds.net.

And you can read more about Vega, his life, influences and what rethought of those who were influenced by him at theguardian.com.
