Today's Webtip: The Prince Museum
Although it may have seemed at times that Our Purple Majesty was resisting the sign of the times and going against the grain of easy online access to his works, he was actually a very early proponent of the potential of digital communications. Those efforts have now been collected in one place, presented on a lovely little timeline, and shared with all of us by the people who helped make it happen.
It starts with a look at one of his first attempts. A CD ROM from 1994. It ends with the site for his band 3rdEyeGirl.com. The result is not just a fascinating history of Prince's attempt at reaching out to his fans, but of the development of online communications, distribution, and community building.
It's not yet a comprehensive collection of all things online from the man who wouldn't be king, but it is still an impressive view of the work and vision he had. For prince fans and online historians alike.
