Today's Webtip: Revolution in Rojava

A series of articles taking a look at developments in northern Syria.

Interesting times.

We are indeed living in them. And when you look at the situation in many countries around the globe it becomes very apparent just why it might be considered a curse when someone says they hope you live in them.

One of the good things about interesting times is that interesting people frequently step up to the challenges they present. The results can frequently be very interesting. But in a somewhat more positive manner.

Think about the situation in the Middle East over the last several decades. Or rather, think about the image of that situation that we have received in our little islands.

Depending on where you come from on the political spectrum, or where you have travelled in your personal past, that image will be quite varied. But it isn't very likely to include an image of a place with an experiment in "stateless, direct democracy with women’s liberation, race and class equality at the forefront."

Of course, depending on where your are coming from, that might not be viewed as a good thing, I guess.

But it might be worth learning a little bit more about that attempt that is currently taking place in Northern Syria. In Rojava. And you can do that in a series that is currently developing at opendemocracy.net.
