Why? Well apparently they are having some troubles with certain internet providers. Or at least their customers think that. One of the reasons so many users were upset with Netflix banning VPN use was that they had found it actually helped them maintain better bandwidth (and not necessarily because they were trying to watch a different countries library).
Whatever the case may be, they have now put up a dead easy speedtest that does just one thing: measure your download speed. No ads, no Flash, no upload speed.
