Today's Webtip: Things Learned
It seems like people have been trying to get in the minds of terrorists for ages now. What motivates them, why do they do what they do, what led them to join the groups they are joining. And people have spend the same amount of time coming up with their own answers. Politicians, journalists, sociologists and even your uncle Bob all have their own theories about what drives someone to kill innocent people in the name of, well, whatever.
But some people take that impulse to understand and turn it into serious research. One of them, a member of Artis International, has been traveling through the middle east with a catalog of questions. Questions developed based on cognitive and moral psychology.
Lydia Wilson has shared some of what she has found in an article at The Nation. It is the story of one of her interviews with a member of IS. The results might (or might not) surprise you. I am pretty sure it you will find it interesting reading.
