As the polls had predicted, yesterday's election in Upper Austria delivered a heavy blow to the ruling ÖVP, as they lost 10 percentage points, and the possibility of their black-green coalition holding onto power. The dramatic rise of the FPÖ has changed the political landscape completely, as they cruised into a comfortable second place with over 30% of the vote.
Political analyst and far right movement expert, Reinhard Heinisch, gives his views and interpretation of the results.
