Auf der Flucht

The ORF's Chief Middle East Correspondent and the Head of its Cairo Bureau, Karim El-Gawhary has co-authored a new book called "Auf der Flucht". A Saturday Reality Check Special with Karim El-Gawhary.

One Picture is Worth...

Karim El-Gawhary started documenting stories of refugees from Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, with the intent of sharing their plight, back in December... unaware of just how close to home, here for us in Austria, their stories would come. Here are Karim's pictures of some his protagonists:

Amscha

Karim El-Gawhary

"Amscha - all her male relatives were shot in front of her by IS, she was taken away and sold on the market in Mosul, before she managed to escape."
Ibrahim

Karim El-Gawhary

"Ibrahim, 13 years old - his mother was shot right in front of him on the way to Europe. I asked him what he would have done if he would have made it with his mama zo Europe. He answered: I would have finally gone back to school."
Iman Ali Lager

Karim El-Gawhary

"Iman, 64 years old - lost all her children and has to take care of her nine grandchildren. I met her in a camp in Lebanon two weeks ago."
Kriegsbild

Karim El-Gawhary

"A picture a Syrian refugee child staying in a Lebanese refugee camp, drew for me."

A Thousand Words.
