Today's Webtip: Why so hetzerisch?

A look at the reasons behind refugee hate-posts.

Anyone, who has seen their timeline fill up with posts about the refugee crisis, has probably come across lots of people doing their best to try to make a positive difference. And they have also probably come across a lot of people doing their best to do just the opposite.

Posts accusing the refugees of being ungrateful, wasteful, violent, or, in the case of one famous photo, child murderers.

Two recent events, have taken things to a new extreme. The death of 71 refugees in a truck, and the photo of a three year old, Aylan, who drowned off the coast of Bodrum.

Two events that resulted in an outpouring of solidarity and empathy with some, and a torrent of hate and conspiracy theories in others. But why?

That's the question posed by Fabian Schmid in an article called "Warum Hetzer im Netz die Fotos toter Flüchtlinge infrage stellen" on derstandard.at

It's worth a read.
