Today's Webtip: T.A.Z.
I have tried to drop some hints and breadcrumbs to artists, ideas of creators who have had an impact on the development of the web since the very beginning of the webtips. Sometimes they are obvious, sometimes they are ancient, and most of the time they had an influence well beyond the web itself.

Hakim Bey
The Temporary Autonomous Zone, by Hakim Bey, is neither obvious nor ancient, but it has probably had an influence over a few things you might have experienced recently.
So what is a Temporary Autonomous Zone. Well, Burning Man is usually held up as an example. The early days of illegal raves would be another. I think Flashmobs would have qualified, barcamps and unconferences are also pretty good examples.
But in the end it's poetry. Applied poetry. Anarchist poetry brought into the physical world for short moments in time in order to find a communal way for individuals to express and experience themselves and others.
If that doesn't help, you can find a pretty good summary at beautifultrouble.org
Or you can listen to an interview with Hakim Bey and Robert Anton Wilson
Best of all, you can read the whole damn thing online.
