Trump "threw a few firebombs"
In the first televised debate of Republican presidential nomination candidates, poll topping Donald Trump was at the heart of the show. As expected, he was outrageous, forceful and detrimental to every cause other than his own.
Perhaps most controversially, he announced that if he does not get the nomination, he will run as an independent - opening up the real possibility of splitting the Republican vote. While that might be music to the ears of Hillary Clinton, it could pose a major problem for the GOP.

However, once the rhetoric and bluster is over, there is little substance to Trump's campaign. He's heavy on impact and sound bites, but light on actual policy - which may then turn attention to the man most people consider to be the "serious" candidate, Jeb Bush.
The problem is, that Jeb doesn't seem to want the presidency enough to really fight for it - and that might be his downfall.
Political analyst, James Boys, gives his reactions to last nights televised debate among the top 10 candidates for the Republican nomination for the presidency.
Russia destroys food imports

Russian authorities are destroying tonnes of food imported in violation of sanctions, outraging religious leaders and millions of Russian citizens who say the food should be given to the poor.
Cheese, fruit, vegetables, and meat products have been brought into the country, despite Moscow's sanctions against the EU and other countries over their stance on Ukraine. President Putin says these must be destroyed, even though the country has over 4 million people below the poverty line.
Charles Maynes reports from Moscow.
