Andreas Krieg is an assistant professor in the Defence Studies Department of King’s College in London.

Last autumn he spent some time embedded with Peshmerga fighters in Iraqi Kurdistan in order to find out more about the structure and strategies of the fighting forces of Islamic State.

He tells us about the state of the Peshmerga fighters, what he found out about IS forces, and what he thinks is necessary to combat the spread of IS:
