Today's Webtip: internet of trees

Taking the internet of things to the next level.

In the U.S., when I was growing up, people who wanted to insult ecologically minded people by calling them tree huggers. Or dirty filthy communists. Or dirty filthmy communist tree-huggers.

I guess it depends on how much they had managed to piss off the person throwing the insults.

After reading an article at Engadget I had to think of those people, and those insults, and wonder what they would think of people who wrote emails to trees.

And if they could have imagined that the trees might actually answer.

Or if they would be at all surprised that someone tried to have a conversation with a tree about the Greek debt crisis.

You can read that exchange, and find out some other stuff about the program at www.citylab.com or you can head over to the Melbourne city project site and get some more information about the trees, their status, and the interesting data visualisation project they have going melbourneurbanforestvisual.com.au
