Erdogan has presided over a dramatic escalation in violence against women

The country has seen a decline in women's rights and an increase in domestic violence since Erdogan's AK party came to power in 2003.

Although more women than ever before are in the parliament, that is not translating into a better deal for Turkish women in general.

Feminism researcher, Ayse Dursun, of the University of Vienna, describes the political climate in Turkey that fosters violence against women.
