Belmokhtar was a major figure among Islamist fighters in North Africa

Mokhtar Belmokhtar, a former top figure in Al Qaeda in the Islamic Magreb, is believed to have been killed in a US air strike on Libya.

The Algerian, who is thought to have been behind an attack on a gas plant in 2013, had fallen out with AQIM, and developed his own organisation, based in Libya

Shashank Joshi describes the man also known as "Mr Marlboro" (for his cigarette smuggling activities), and explains why, although the focus may now be on Islamic State/Daesh, Al Qaeda is still a force to be reckoned with.

New nuclear power station in Hungary

Despite heavy opposition, the Hungarian government is pressing ahead with plans to build a new nuclear power plant on the Danube, largely funded by Russia.

The government says the new facility is needed, and will help the country reach it's environmental targets by reducing CO2 emissions, but critics say it is unnecessary.

Many people are concerned that by taking the loan from Russia, the country could become exposed to pressure from Moscow, if the deal goes wrong.

Nick Thorpe reports from Budapest.
