Today's Webtip: After the Icebucket
One of the more frustrating things about following news stories is the lack of closure. The speedy news cycle tends to mean that things get covered, but followup stories are rare or hard to find.
One of the big stories last year, both in news media and on social was the ice bucket challenge. An attempt at raising awareness about Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the videos of people dumping buckets of ice over their heads went massively viral, and managed to raise well over 100 million dollars for organisations researching and helping supporters of the disease.
So what happened with all of the money?
The Guardian asked just that questions and gives the answer as well as some insight on what it is like for charitable organisations to deal with that kind of massive influx of donations.
