Today's Webtip: Nirvana

An oral history of the bands breakthrough.

If you are a Nirvana fan, you have probably already read almost everything there is to be said about the band. At least the almost anything that could be said by mainstream music journalists and the odd fanzine or two.

But you might not have heard what the bands that were on the road with that band might have had to say. While the boys from the band were being catapulted to outrageous nights of alternative stardom, they were still out and about playing with underground and alternative acts that were still firmly on the floor of the music business.

Nick Soulsby was only 14 when the band broke, but he has spent the last couple of years tacking down members of the bands that were still doing the lowering rock tours that Nirvana were playing before they went to the big time. The result is a book titled "I Found My Friends: The Oral History of Nirvana". You can read an excerpt from it on medium, and it provides a pretty interesting look at things from a perspective most journalists couldn't get.
