Last year, after Conchita Wurst made world headlines and people were celebrating a win for tolerance and warm-fuzzies, quite a few people reacted in a rather surprising way. They complained about all the talk about tolerance.
Because they never experienced intolerance. So it must not be a problem.
I can sort of understand that. If you aren't one of the people triggering other people's various phobias, it might be hard to visualize intolerance.
But it is out there, it is ugly, and it can be horrifying to experience. Finding a way to communicate that to people who haven't experienced it could actually be a useful teaching tool. Or maybe even art.
