Z-Type
I have always loved typing games. That's probably because I never took a typing class and hoped that they could somehow make up for my lack of training.
It hasn't worked so far, but despite my terrible 8 finger style, I can usually pull of some decent typing speeds. Decent enough to get me through a few level of Z-Type.
Z-Type doesn't mess around with any kind of tutorials. It just throws you into a space where aliens with words attached drop down on you from above. As with most games in this genre, if they hit you, you are toast.
Rather than using a fire button to defend yourself, you have to type words. The faster you can type, the further you get.
It's surprisingly addictive.
