If you're not totally familiar with the Oslo Accords, it may come as a surprise that there is, or rather has been, security cooperation between Israel and the Palestinians.

Mahmoud Abbas finds himself in an awkward position over the deal.

It's not something either side likes to shout about, but it's important to both sides, and neither wants it to fail permanently.

However, ahead of the forthcoming Israeli elections, the Palestinian Liberation Organisation has suspended the cooperation.

Middle East security analyst, Paul Rogers, explains how the cooperation has worked up until now, and the significance of its suspension a this moment in time.
