A major offensive to retake the Iraqi city of Tikrit is currently underway. Most people had been expecting an assault on Mosul but it seems that this was all a clever piece of military disinformation.

UNHCR: Saving lives in the Mediterranean

The UNHCR is proposing that merchant ships be compensated for saving migrants adrift in the Mediterranean Sea. The idea is to help fill a gap left when Italy ended its Mare Nostrum programme last year; a programme that was replaced by the more restricted Operation Triton run by the European border agency, FRONTEX.
