Egypt releases Australian Journalist

While the freeing of the Australian Al-Jazeera journalist Peter Greste has come as a welcome surprise, the situation for the other two Al-Jazeera journalists being held remains unclear. Freedom of speech and freedom of the press remain rare commodities in Egypt; a country some see as being in a worse state now than it was under Mubarak.

Greek finance minister tours Europe

Paris at the weekend, London today and then on to Rome; the Greek finance minister Janis Varoufakis is visiting major European capitals hoping to drum up support for the new Greek government’s position on European austerity and the terms of the Greek bailout. One capital he’s not visiting just yet is Berlin.

Foxcatcher

The film about the circumstances surrounding the 1984 murder of wrestler and Olympic gold medalist Dave Schultz is the subject of an FM4 film premiere tomorrow. The film, Foxcatcher, is then set for general release at the end of this week. Schultz was murdered by John E du Pont the eccentric and deeply disturbed heir to the massive E.I du Pont family fortune.
