Today's Webtip: Goodbye Flash
It has taken a while, but anyone who only had Flash installed in order to get the most out of YouTube can finally let it go. Yesterday they announced that the site would now default to the html5 player.
This makes me pretty happy. Although I think Flash is great for creating interactive content, it is about time that web video playback was possible without it. And if we are lucky, the number of videos that weren't available for mobile devices should be increased.
But we aren't here to mourn or castigate Flash. I would prefer to celebrate with some plugins that might make YouTube more fun. Or less annoying.
Magic Actions is a plugin for Chrome, Firefox and Opera that adds functions like Auto HD, stop autoplay and the abillity to customize comments.
YouTube Center offers some of the same funcitonality, but does it for the same browsers plus Safari and IE.
Not all of the functions seem to be available in the html5 viewer, but it seems that some of the most important ones (for me at least) are.
