PEGIDA march cancelled

In Dresden, the planned PEGIDA demonstration today has been cancelled following a "concrete threat" from Islamic State militants.

This latest development has brought about an interesting change in the narrative around PEGIDA. As many would have expected, PEGIDA are using the threat to justify their anti-Islamisation platform. On the other side, left wing parties which are politically forcefully opposed to PEGIDA, now find themselves defending PEGIDA's right to free expression.

Sammy Khamis is Dresden and attended the PEGIDA press conference this morning.
