Today's Webtip: 100 things we learned in 2014

Your chance to catch up on the stuff you might have missed.

What did you learn last year?

Could you even begin to go back and list off the new information you have acquired? I can't. My goldfish like memory and even worse search and archiving functions means that I prefer to let other people compile the end of year lists.

This one from the BBC is quite a doozy.

I might not have missed the Hello Kitty dust-up or the kinky seals thing, but I didn't know that gladiators were mostly vegetarian or that Ukraines navy has (well, had) combat sea-lions.

The fact that teacher can still beat students with wooden paddles (in the U.S. anyway) was nothing new, but might be surprising to the civilized world, and I completely missed out on the fact that there is a symphonic Finnish prog-rock concept album about Scrooge McDuck.

These are just a handful of the wonderful things we learned (that don't have to do with government/corporate corruption or massive global surveilance) in 2014. It might be worth checking out the article so you can get up to speed for 2015.
