Today's Webtip: Torture

A rundown of the release as well as a look at the only individual to face jail for the programm. The whistleblower.

I had really hoped to grow out of my angry young man phase. Or at least settle in to a sort of stodgy grumpy old man phase.

But I'm still pissed.

At the war machine that has managed to insert itself into every aspect of American life, at the politicians who profit from it and actively expand it, at the politicians who don't but allow it to contiue through their complacency.

At the media in the U.S. and elsewhere who used the term enhanced interrogation. At the citizens who accepted it. At the culture of violence and bullying that made it acceptable.

That's why I was amazed and happy that the torture report actually got released. I probably shouldn't be hopeful that our allies and concerned citizens will use it as an opportunity to take a corrective course, but it's hard to shut down my inner idealist.

So read some articles on the report, especially those willing to use proper terminology like "torture" and "war crimes", and remember that the only person to have faced any jail time for these things, is the person who made us aware of them.
