Staffan de Mistura is the latest UN envoy for Syria and the challenges he faces have become considerably more complex with the rise of ISIS. The Italian-Swedish diplomat has put forward a plan for freezing the civil war in Syria – we try to find out if it can work.

Philippines typhoon

Almost exactly one year ago, one of the most powerful storms in recorded history hit Southeast Asia and brought death and destruction to large areas of the Philippines in particular.
