Today's Webtip: MST3K

So obscure they had to annotate it. You still probably had to be there though...

Inside jokes are usually something shared between a few close friends or acquaintances. They can, however, also be shared by generations or cultural cliques.

They also tend to spontaneously erupt when smart-asses watch bad movies.

My days of sitting with groups of people making snarky comment on top of terrible movies is over. But I can still pretend, and I do that with the online presence of Mystery Science Theater 3000. A TV show from 80's Minneapolis that was pretty much just that. Bad movies with comments.

The times they have a changed, and the cultures are very different, so a lot of people might not recognize the references being made in the comments. A few people got so obsessed with figuring out every obscure reference that there is an entire website dedicated to it.

Now the people behind the show have gotten into the action and are posting some annotated videos on their Youtube channel.

The first one is up now. But I warn you. It's a bad movie.
