Today's Webtip: Sleep Data

an interesting use of data acquired by wearables.

The Jawbone Up is a wearable device for tracking activity. It's one of many devices released over the last couple of years that have been silently generating a massive amount of data.

One of the secondary uses of these devices is sleep tracking. It can be an eye-opening experience to get a visible representation of just how much sleep (or at least restful activity) you might actually be getting. The kind of data early wearable adopters were rather fond of collecting.

And now one the people behind the Jawbone product have decided to share some data. It's currently focused on input from U.S. users, but the result is pretty nifty.

They have published an article on their blog which not only includes some written analysis and explanation but also interactive maps.

It turns out that where you live might just have an effect on how you sleep.
