Today's Webtip: Invisibility

A D.I.Y. guide to making things invisible.

The ability to wander around unseen has been a fairly fix element in fantasy and science fiction novels for ages. Rings, cloaks, spells, or high-tech gadgets that can mask your presence just seems to fascinate people and they can be fairly useful in getting around tricky plot points.

But invisibility isn't just something for the realm of fiction. There are more than a few interested parties with very deep pockets that would like to see it become a reality. And it looks like it might actually be possible. No, it IS possible. You might have already seen some posts about invisibility cloaks that feature all sorts of super complicated gadgetry.

Now researchers at the University of Rochester have made it a bit more simple. It's not quite something you can put on and wander around in, but it does do a pretty good job of making static objects disappear. It's also, apparently, something dedicated hobbyists could do themselves.

You can read about and see (or not) it here nerdist.com/2014/09/an-invisibility-cloak-you-can-make-yourself.
