Today's Webtip: No Tech
Tech in teaching has come a long way. When I started my studies few people had a personal computer of their own, laptops took up your whole lap and the most advanced computer video effects available to us experimental video types was a toaster.
By the time I finally got a degree my phone could do more advanced video editing than any desktop solution available when I started, and I used a pen computer to take notes and digitize my handwriting.
All of us had laptops in class, and Facebook was the preferred method of making snarky comments about the class. Usually during class.
Clay Shirky is a tech journalist and media professor who isn't only aware of these changes, he has been writing about them and even encouraging them in his own classroom.
Until now.
You can read about his reasons at washingtonpost.com.
As a recent ex-student and teacher, I think he might just be right.
