Today's Webtip: Pro Gaming
There is a part of me that wants to smirk every time I use the word e-sports. The thought of highly organized, money generating video game tournaments still feels like something out of a bad science fiction film.
And the games don't help. As much as I love some gaming, the back channel chatter and posturing around games like LOL just makes me want to go into dad-mode.
But it's here, it's real, and it's rapidly becoming a major money maker. I know it's not new, and e-sports have been around for ages, but the money and attention has changed, which might be why we are starting to see more long form journalism about the subject.
