Today's Webtip: MoneyLab
Was anyone else surprised that an economist has achieved rock star status? Piketty and his fans and foes have been one of those things I would have only dreamed of under Reagan, but now there are major (if not always in depth or serious) discussions about economic inequality in major media across Europe and the U.S.
Alternative currencies are another one of those big surprises, with Bitcoin moving the discussion of money ad it's alternatives out of the realm of wing-nuts and into the limelight. It would be a beautiful thing if it wasn't driven be fear and necessity.
It's also made it possible for events like MoneyLab to take place. A conference that actually allowed some pretty interesting ideas to get aired and discussed. Ideas that are more focused on real alternatives to the surrender situation that can be applied now, at grass roots levels.
You can read about some of those ideas at the conference site or you can go grab some added historical perspective and an interesting critique at roarmag.org/2014/03/moneylab-conference-alternative-currencies.
