US Secretary of State John Kerry is having a very busy day. His schedule today includes a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and a meeting with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank. He's also set to meet with U.N. Sec. Gen. Ban Ki-moon, who is in Israel, working to stop the bloodshed and establish an immediate ceasefire.

A ceasefire can't come fast enough. The death toll, at the moment I am writing this, stands at 31 Israelis and 649 Palestinians.

The many injured in Gaza attempting to get to a functioning hospital know the journey to the border crossing to Egypt and to medical assistance will be made in vain today. The border crossing is closed.
