Global trade agreements seem to be pretty useful things. For some global interests, the fact that they can dictate limits of legislation and take place behind closed doors are very much features.

For the rest of us they seem like bugs.

The latest meeting of mighty minds has apparently resulted in some interesting possibility for the financial sector. Taking hints from intellectual property owners, the banking industry appears to have found a way to put the breaks on anyone who might want to get in their way.

The Trade in Services Agreement appears to have been set up to lock in the deregulation and liberalization of the financial sector. And make it easier for companies to get their hands on customer data across borders.
