EU: 1 billion Euro for Ukraine

While Sunday’s controversial referendum on independence for two eastern provinces may have speeded up the territorial collapse of the country, financially things are looking a little better for the battered country. Syria: Brahimi quits

The intractable Syrian crisis has claimed another victim. This time it’s the United Nations and Arab League Special Representative Lakhdar Brahimi who has thrown in the towel after two frustrating years trying to resolve the conflict. He’s the second high profile mediator to resign - former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan only lasted 6 months in the job and, like him, Brahimi is deeply disappointed in the efforts of the UN Security Council.
