Today's Webtip: Present Shock

Douglas Rushkoff calls for the end of corporate capitalism

Did you know that a book about economics has been on the New York Times bestseller list? Not just any economics book, one that claims that rising inequality is killing capitalism. One that has financial conservatives in the States apoplectic.

The book is //Capital in the 21st Century// by Thomas Piketty.

Piketty isn't the first to have identified a problem with the recent distribution of wealth. I'm very certain he won't be the last, either. But right now he is the biggest name in the game and his success has forced a discussion into the mainstream that usually hangs out in a corner with a few friends.

One of those friends is Douglas Rushkoff.

Rushkoff is an american author, media theorist, open-source advocate and was also once the keyboarder for Psychic TV. He recently published a book called Present Shock, and gave a presentation at DLDnyc expanding on his idea of presentism. The audience and panels were full of raging young digital capitalists and enthusiastic VCs. His talk was one glorious condemnation.

You can find more of his ideas at his blog rushkoff.com/blog.
