Today's Webtip: Heartbleed hit-list
Well, this is a fine mess we have gotten ourselves into.
Heartbleed has compromised the security on an unkown number of sites, security types are saying this would be a great time to change passwords, but it makes no sense to do so until a website has actually patched their site.
To top it all off, some sites that were using OpenSSL are saying their users won't need to do anything while others aren't saying anything at all. I only just got done switching all of my passwords a little while ago, and the thought of doing so again is pushing all of my panic and procrastination buttons.
There are at least a few people out there trying to help us make sense of things. Mashable has put together a list of the top sites and their status. If something there is showing a green checkmark you probably need to change your password for it. That green checkmark means it has been patched and should be safe to change.
It's a nice, but somewhat small, list. And that means you are almost on your own for any other accounts. Almost, because a team from Finland have put together a tool to help you test a site.
