Today's Webtip: Ukraine
I felt sort of bad about not posting anything about the situation in Ukraine these last couple of weeks. I have been reading everything I can find, and ran across a few articles that were really interesting, but then I would usually come across something else that left me questioning the quality of the information.
I don't think I have ever felt so conscious of massive attempts at spin in any news story I have ever come across. My inner tinfoil hat type keeps flipping out on every story. It has almost seemed like I could visualise massive armies of internet posters with conflicting agendas eagerly devouring every article only to bash on their keyboards in angry contempt.
Call me Jon Snow and tell me how little I know.
I think I might have found something to start with though. MetaFilter has seen several posts on the subject, but a recent one really caught my attention.
The Past is a Foreign Country, Also the Present
It has some links to articles that are almost getting there. An analysis by a Yale professor as well as arguments from RT Today and the U.S. State Department for example.
one of the greatest things about MeFi is the quality of their comments. They seem to have the best signal to noise ration of any site, and downright trolls are extremely rare. They also tend to provide further explanations and links to relevant content. Something that makes comment reading mandatory on subjects like this.
