Today's Webtip: The Day We Fight Back
The NSA is watching you. Well, maybe not you specifically, but they are doing their best to suck up as much information on as many people as possible.
What does that mean? Well, the best way to get up to speed on the current information would be to read The Guardians overview of the subject.
One of the first things we learned about the NSA program was that they were collecting metadata based on cell phone usage. That information left a lot of people wondering what the NSA could possibly do with what seems to many too be harmless information. Yesterday we found out one thing they can do with it; define targets for drone attacks. That's right, the drone strikes aren't targeting specific individuals, they are targeting devices.
But what's a person to do? Well, some people are hoping that a mass information campaign combined with a call to action in the form of a lot of letter writing might be of use. That's why today is the Day We Fight Back.
It's not going to be easy, but a similar campaign did have some success in fighting SOPA and PIPA in 2012.
Baby steps I guess.
And maybe, someday, we will find out what's up with the NSA in Austria. That story seems to have gone off the radar.
