Today's Webtip: Jamaican Bobsled Team
I think it was Roli who tweeted a link to an article about the trouble the Jamaican bobsled team had with their luggage. Now, I'm always getting all sorts of fake stories in my feed, so my immediate reaction was to assume someone was tossing out some click bait.
According to the first link I read, the team lost everything but their sled. No clothes, and no blades for the sled, which would have made it impossible to compete. But, like in any good hollywood kitsch, competitors and colleagues rallied around to offer up some help so the 2 man team would have a hope to compete.
At this point I was suffering from a serious case of Déjà Vu, and I was almost certain someone was trying to pull our collective legs. Further reading turned up some even more hollywood friendly facts. Yes, the team qualified for competition, but no, they didn't have enough money to actually come compete. Something the internet was going to tolerate, so crowdfunding to the rescue including a massive influx of support in the form of Dogecoin.

Don't know what that is? Read that last link.
So after chasing this story all around the net I finally gave in. It must be real, and my initial fear of falling prey to an onionesque fauxheadline was simply due to spending too much time in the wrong part of the internet.
Besides, if the BBC got it wrong, too, I don't need to feel quite so bad.
