Today's Webtip: Dr. Strangelove

It turns out Kubrick's classic might have been more fact than fiction.

One of the great joys of the Snowden leaks has been watching various members of the U.S. government and the NSA twist and turn as they tried to practice a little damage control. Following the whole thing has left me with a reinforced perception that concepts like "truth" are a rather fluid thing for many of the individuals and institutions involved.

That's not really anything new though. Critics of the U.S. military industrial complex have frequently been portrayed as a mix of conspiracy nuts, communist sympathizers or outright peddlers of propaganda. That was the case with Dr. Strangelove, a film that showed a mad general ordering a nuclear attack without consulting the President or following the chain of command. Something critics of the film and members of the U.S. government claimed was impossible.

Guess what?
