Today's Webtip: Dad Jokes
Making the transition to fatherhood is a weird thing. Once you have recovered from the sheer terror and uncertainty at the prospect of suddenly being completely responsible for someone else, you start to notice other, more subtle changes.
A loss of irony for example. The sudden desire to wear Hawaiian shirts because it seems like a good idea. A sense of loss when your kids grow out of the Teletubbies...
And then there is that moment when you realize you have started telling dad jokes. Any appreciation of higher forms of humor disappear and you find yourself dropping one corny joke after the other.
It's like a weird form of OCD that won't let you leave a bad one-liner lie. Even if you manage to suppress them, they still bounce around in your head until you can find a safe spot to let them out.
So I read others jokes instead. Online. The best collection I have found so far is on Reddit.
I like to think it helps keep me from telling them myself. That sounds plausible, doesn't it?
