Today's Webtip: CES

A quick rundown of the things we can expect in 2014, plus a look back at the biggest vaporware in CES history.

The Consumer Electronics Show is one of those annual events that I look forward to and dread at the same time. I look forward to it because it's the event that many manufacturers use to announce the latest and greatest gadgets, and I dread it because it's the event that gets a lot of crappy coverage.

I also like to collect press releases for internet enabled refrigerators. It looks like the Guardian already did the article I have been saving clippings for, so just go check that out: www.theguardian.com

The internet Fridge isn't the only noshow that has been announced at the CES. Matt Novak has a rundown of some of the greatest vaporware. Some of those devices did actually show up eventually, but it turns out 1983 was just a bit too early for a true consumer home robot.

The most annoying thing about the Consumer Electronics Show has to be the flood of press releases that accompany it. No, wait. The MOST annoying thing has to be the fact that most reporting never actually gets beyond copy/paste of those releases. Millions of sites across the planet sharing the same exact information is just so annoying.

So if you want to know what's going on, but would like to spare yourself the redundancy of most reports just head on over to The Wirecutter. They have The Realists Guide to CES and it's a pretty good way to just get to the good stuff.
