Today's Webtip: To Protect and Infect

Jacob Applebaums presentation at the CCC explaining the most recent NSA revelations covered in Der Spiegel.

Getting tired of NSA stories yet?

I'm sorry. It would be great if it would all just go away, but it doesn't seem like that is going to happen any time soon. Not until enough people across the planet get pissed off to do something about it.

So here is the next installment of why you might want to be bothered. It's the talk Jacob Applebaum gave on the day his story with the Spiegel went live. It goes into much more depth and he gives pretty good powerpoint.

The Militarization of the Internet

As hopeless as it all seems right now, this type of thing has been beaten before. It was a long time ago, and it may have been a learning moment for the architects of the current surveillance regime, but it dismantled an intense U.S. political surveillance and political oppression program that resulted in the dismantling of the Hoover F.B.I.

You can read about that, and the people behind the leaks that took it all down at NPR and see a video about it at the New York Times.
